Lal Bahadur Shastri Shikshan Prasarak Mandal was established on 5th April, 1981(GUDHI PADWA) by a group of like-minded, progressive people who were and today are associated with educational activities. And they had a strong desire to spread it rapidly in the society. An educational trust was formed and registered on 16th July 1981. The primary school has been recognized by the B.M.C from 1981 and the Govt. of Maharashtra has recognized the secondary school from 1982.
The school committee started "Amar Kor Vidyalaya" in Bhandup, which is one of the poorest suburbs of Mumbai and has been declared as slum area by the Govt. of Maharashtra. This school is located at Pratap Nagar area, surrounded by Jamil Nagar, Farid Nagar, and Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar, Phule Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Pathan Colony, Kamble compound, Hanuman Tekdi and other such slums.
Modern Education needs the basic infrastructure facilities for conducting the pre-primary, primary and secondary school activities. The school committee has constructed 25 classrooms for conducting classes and 10 more rooms for facilitating the other functions of school. The school has spacious library with more than 8922 books. A well-equipped laboratory is also provided for the students. The school committee has provided teacher's room, office room and play ground, along with necessary furniture and equipment's. A state-of-the-art computer room is also provided by the school committee with 50 computers. Students are enjoying this facility very well.
For good and interactive teaching learning process, the school committee has facilitated the usage of different audio- visual presentations, e-learning software, overhead projector and CD's etc. At present 2130 students are studying in the school of which 250 are in pre primary, 685 in primary and 1195 are in secondary school.
About 65% of the students belong to SC, ST, NT and backward classes as well as minority groups and 95% of the students belong to economically backward classes. Primary and Secondary schools are allowed grant-in- aid by the BMC & the Govt. Of Maharashtra. Total 66 teaching and non-teaching staff appointed by the school committee, is currently working in the school.
All the schools grow richer as supporting facilities change the face of education. We have a well-equipped, spacious, library where one can enjoy reading on various topics in complete silence. It contains a variety of books in Marathi, Hindi and English languages. There are 8922 books, which comprise of short stories, novels, dictionaries, books on varied subjects etc. After school, students enjoy reading books in the school library. Every class has a library club that helps every student to read books. There are parents from the area who are the members of library, so that they can benefit from reading as well.
It is said that Every child is "Special and Unique and all round development of every child " is the motto of our school. The school committee has many future plans for the development of the school as well as the students in the school.
